WTF?



SAM GHANTOUS
(b. 1989, Muscat, Oman)  is an itinerant artist based in Zürich. He works with the entanglements between environments and the networked media that shape and share them. Drawing on techniques from the web, architecture, and video games, his presentations combine custom software and videos with spatial installations, sculptures, and prints. Taking his own migratory and transcultural background as a point of departure, Sam explores themes of change through technology: translation in states of materiality, the global circulation of images and exchanges between intimate and public experience.

Sam’s solo shows “🏛🔀” and “your golf course made my GPU” were exhibited in New York with YveYANG Gallery, where he is represented. He has also exhibited with Postmasters Gallery, A83, SPRING/BREAK, ZKM at the Ludwig Museum in Budapest, ASSAB One in Milan,  MODEL Festival in Barcelona, OōEli Art Park in Hangzhou and Art Basel Hong Kong. 

He is, additionally, a co-founder of FOREIGN OBJECTS, a multidisciplinary design and research studio. They have won the Mozilla Creative Media Award, NEW INC Residency, and the Bard Digital Artist in Residency. They have presented work with the Internet Archive, New Museum, Open City Doc in London, and worked on projects for Shannon Mattern, and Rhizome.
    
Sam holds a Master of Architecture from MIT and is currently an Assistant teaching and researching in the Chair of Rosa Barba at ETH Zürich. He has taught at Cornell, University of Toronto, MIT and ETH and his work has been published in Thresholds Journal, PLAT Journal, and Trans Magazin.
